Memphis: So close Freud 'and suffering together

The employees of the elephant house in the Memphis Zoo, USA, in these days through a roller coaster of emotions.

Full of pride and joy was the birth of an elephant girl announced. On 6 July 2009 gave birth to the African Elefantenkuh Asali after a pregnancy of 1 year, 9 months and 15 days in the late evening around 22:23 clock (local time) a healthy elephant girl. Lil 'Girl, like the Small of the nurses was called, is the very first baby elephant in the 103-year history of the Memphis Zoo!

But then disaster ...

The 1.5-day-old elephant girl ran on 8 July 2009 against clock 10:00 (local time) through the room and tripped. Mama tried Asali, the little back on the footing. It was the baby, unfortunately, by a seriously injured tusk.

The coaches began immediately, the baby from the mother to be separated. They provided first aid and brought the baby elephant in the animal clinic of the zoo, where there was medical attention. Due to the serious injuries the little girl died on 8 July 2009 at 11:10 clock (local time).

Back to remain severely shocked staff of the Elephant House and a deeply grieving mother elephant.

After Scheinträchtigkeit of female panda Ya Ya, this is the second major setback in 2009, the Memphis Zoo must cope.
